The Lord Mayor's Show - A BIT OF BACKGROUND

In 1215, King John granted a charter allowing the citizens fo the City of London to elect their own Mayor, but stipulated that the new Mayor must be presented to the Sovereign for approval and swear fealty to the Crown.

For nearly 800 years the newly appointed Lord Mayor of London has therefore made the journey from the City to Westminster that has become the Lord Mayor's Show.

The photographs displayed on this site have attempted to capture some of the variety, excitement and fun of the parade.
